What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
If you’re seeing wrinkles and fine lines on your face and you wish you could turn back the clock to see your younger self in the mirror, you have probably heard of injectable treatments that can refresh your skin and smooth away the signs of age. Botox and Dysport are two of the most popular injectables, called neuromodulators, that effectively erase wrinkles and fine lines.
Both Botox and Dysport can be used to not only reverse the signs of age but also as a preventative treatment that helps patients maintain their youthful looks for longer, warding off the wrinkles for years.
However, while they are both neuromodulators (wrinkle relaxers), they aren’t identical treatments. What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Botox details
What does it do? Botox lifts and raises the forehead, relaxes deep frown lines and crow’s feet, and keeps the skin smooth, fresh, and youthful-looking.
What does Botox consist of? The Botox substance is a low, safe dose of botulinum toxin, a purified protein that is FDA-approved to be used to temporarily relax the muscles that cause wrinkles.
How long does it last? Botox typically lasts for 3-4 months.
What is the treatment time? Botox treatments take approximately 20 minutes.
Recovery time: Expect minimal to no recovery period after a Botox treatment. There may be redness or swelling that disappears in about an hour.
Dysport details
What does it do? Like Botox, Dysport can lift the brow, relax frown lines, smooth crow’s feet, smooth lines away from the forehead, and keep the skin looking young, smooth, and fresh.
What does Dysport consist of? Dysport is also made from botulinum toxin, but it is more diluted substance. This quality allows Dysport to spread more quickly once it’s injected. Dysport is effective faster, and also allows more range of motion.
Dysport is often used as an alternative for patients who have developed a resistance to Botox treatments over time.
How long does it last? Dysport lasts for approximately 3-4 months.
What is the treatment time? Approximately 20 minutes.
Recovery time: After Dysport injections, there is minimal to no recovery period. You may have some redness or swelling, but this will disappear in about an hour.
Botox or Dysport–which is the best treatment for you?
Deciding between Dysport and Botox is a personal decision for every patient. Both effectively relax wrinkles and lines that have set in, and both can be used as a preventative treatment to avoid the signs of age before they appear in the first place.
