Is the treatment painful?
Juvederm Voluma XC is formulated with lidocaine with makes the injection process more comfortable. The application of topical anesthetic prior to treatment can also help patients feel more comfortable during the treatment.
Is allergy testing needed?
Allergy testing is not required prior to treatment with Juvederm Voluma XC.
Can all skin types be treated?
All skin types can be treated with Juvederm Voluma XC. In fact, Juvederm products were the first FDA-approved Hyaluronic Acid dermal fillers that was proven to be safe and effective in people of color.
Can men be treated?
Men and women of all skin types and colors can be treated with Juvederm Voluma XC.
Does Juvederm Voluma require any special training or techniques?
Any authorized healthcare professional can administer JUVÉDERM® XC injectable gel, but dermatologists, plastic surgeons, ophthalmologists, otolaryngologists (ear, nose, and throat doctors), or physicians specializing in cosmetic procedures are generally more experienced. Dr. Elbert Cheng and Dr. Jacqueline Cheng are board certified facial plastic surgeons who were selected by the company that makes Botox and Juvederm products to be National Allergan Trainers who train providers in proper injection techniques.
Can you combine Juvederm Voluma with other treatments?
You can combine Juvederm Voluma XC treatment with many other types of treatments like Botox Cosmetic, Intense Pulsed Light, or aesthetic treatments to achieve a more complete facial rejuvenation.
How is the recovery?
While you may experience temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration, you can usually return to your normal activities immediately. Any initial, temporary reactions usually resolve within seven days.
What are the common side effects of Juvederm Voluma XC?
The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.
What can be done to prevent bruising?
To prevent bruising during a Juvederm Voluma XC treatment, we usually advise our patients to avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oil for at least one week prior to treatment. Bruising can be resolved more quickly with the use of oral or topical Arnica Montana and topical Vitamin K oxide creams like Auriderm Clearing Gel.
Can Juvederm Voluma be removed if I don’t like the results?
Because Juvederm Voluma XC is a hyaluronic acid filler, there are substances that can be injected to remove the product if a patient is dissatisfied with the results of his or her treatment. However, choosing a qualified injector, like a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, will help ensure that you receive a great treatment and beautiful results.
