How does Thermage FLX work?

Thermage FLX represents a substantial new level of treatment for individuals experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of aging in the face, neck, and body areas. Thermage FLX can even treat the delicate eye area. This latest Thermage technology delivers more energy more efficiently and more comfortably to areas where you need skin rejuvenation.

Thermage FLX, like previous Thermage treatments, uses radiofrequency heat energy to gently heat the underlying skin layers in a controlled and targeted fashion. Heating the dermis in this way stimulates the production of collagen which is naturally produced by the body and is responsible for maintaining good skin tone, texture, and hydration. More collagen means healthier, younger looking skin.

How is Thermage FXL an improvement over earlier Thermage treatments?

Thermage FLX improves upon previous generations of the treatment in three crucial ways. First, a Thermage FLX treatment will be much more comfortable. The Thermage FLX treatment tip vibrates to improve patient comfort. Second, the all-new Thermage FLX treatment tip is now 25 percent larger which means more skin area can be treated during each treatment pass, reducing treatment times substantially.

What is the Thermage FLX procedure?

Since Thermage is not a laser, it heats only the deep layers of the skin and leaves the top layers cool.

No topical anesthetic is required, but we do recommend taking a dose of acetaminophen one hour before your treatment to improve your comfort level during the procedure. The new Thermage FLX tip will also help keep you comfortable during your treatment. Immediately after the procedure, your skin will begin to feel smoother and tighter. You will see the full effects by six months after your treatment. During this time, your body produces new collagen and rejuvenates your skin.

What is the recovery from Thermage FLX?

You will have no downtime following your Thermage FLX treatment. You can resume all activities right away. While you may experience mild redness immediately following the procedure, this will resolve quickly. Full results of your Thermage FLX treatment will be visible 6 months following your treatment.

What results can I expect from Thermage FLX?

Your Thermage FLX treatment will continue to improve your skin for two to six months after your treatment. During this time, your body continues to produce new collagen. Your results, however, will last much longer. You will enjoy firmer, younger looking skin. Individual results, however, will vary depending on many factors such as genetics, your overall health, and levels of sun exposure.

While only a single Thermage FLX treatment is needed to get your full results, follow-up treatments are recommended annually or as required to maintain your look, since aging will naturally continue to affect your skin.

What is Ultherapy and why should I consider adding it to my Thermage FLX treatment regimen?

Ultherapy is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses ultrasound to penetrate the upper levels of skin to the lower levels and stimulate the body’s production of collagen. Similar to Thermage FLX, it is highly precise and targets only the selected treatment site(s). The procedure takes 30 – 90 minutes, depending on the area(s) to be treated, and there is no downtime afterward. Like Thermage FLX, it does not affect any surrounding tissue. There is no heat applied to the surface of the skin.

Because everybody is different, people may respond differently to various techniques and technologies, so alternating therapies may produce the best results for you. We do offer Ultherapy at Cheng Plastic Surgery , and Dr. Dr. Elbert and Dr. Jacqueline will be glad to discuss the possibility of using Ultherapy in your treatment program.
