What is Juvéderm®?

Aging can cause the skin to lose its youthful fullness. Our San Jose Juvéderm® treatment adds volume and fills lines and wrinkles by using high concentrations of hyaluronic acid, a synthetic form of a natural substance in the body. Hyaluronic acid depletes as we get older. HA and collagen form your skin’s complex connective tissues and make your face look full and youthful. It also maintains the water level in your skin so it appears fresh and supple.

Juvéderm® XC (Juvéderm® was the first hyaluronic acid filler in a gel formula, which causes less inflammation and results in a smoother and longer-lasting outcome.

The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm® is non-animal sourced, and it does not require an allergy test, so it is safe to use on all skin types.

Where can Juvederm be used?

Your Juvéderm® Treatment

We will ask you to avoid aspirin and blood thinners for about a week prior to your injections. We administer Juvéderm® XC in San Jose using a very thin needle, and although it is not a painful treatment, a topical anesthetic can be applied to numb the site of your injections. In addition, the formula itself includes Lidocaine to numb the skin further and make the treatment more comfortable for you.

The injections themselves usually take no more than 30 to 45 minutes, as Juvéderm® XC’s gel formula glides easily into the skin. An ice pack may be applied to the area to reduce any minor swelling, and you will be allowed to go home immediately.

What is the Recovery Time After Juvéderm® Injections?

Juvéderm® XC injections require no downtime but avoiding exercise several days after the procedure is advised. You might have minor bruising, swelling, tenderness, and itching where the needle was inserted. These symptoms usually only last a few days to a week and will resolve on their own. You can use makeup to cover any minor bruising, and you are advised to use sunblock any time you are outdoors.

Where is Juvéderm® most frequently used?

Our Palo Alto Juvéderm® XC injectables work on lines, wrinkles, and folds that are a result of lost volume in the face and neck. Juvéderm® is most effective on moderate to severe wrinkles such as:

  • Nasolabial folds that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Marionette lines that run from the corners of the mouth to the chin
  • Fine lines above the upper lip and at the corners of the mouth
  • Juvéderm® XC can also be used for lip augmentation. For lusher, plumper lips, this product creates a very soft, attractive enhancement.

Can Juvéderm® be used on frown lines?

For wrinkles caused by muscle activity, such as frown lines and crow’s feet, BOTOX® injections work best. Juvéderm® is generally used on areas such as the cheeks, lips and mouth to restore facial contours. After we examine you, we will be able to advise you which injectable product will provide you with the look you want. Sometimes, a combination of dermal fillers and BOTOX® is recommended.

How long will my Juvéderm® results last?

You will see immediate results following your treatment. Typically, your Juvéderm® XC results will become fully visible 2-3 weeks after your treatment. During this amount of time any swelling will have decreased, and you may opt for further injections of Juvéderm® XC. In a clinical study, patients reported looking 5 years younger up to six months after their treatment. For most people, Juvéderm® XC lasts about six to nine months, however, some patients have had it last as long as 18 months. Results have been shown to last up to two years for those that received injections in the cheek area.
